Provoked for Promotion

Provoked-For-Promotion

  • There will always be someone or something to provoke you
  • Is provocation necessarily a bad thing?
    • It’s unkind to provoke people in areas they cannot change
    • Hebrews 10:24
      • Consider provoking others to love more
  • Live your life in such a way you provoke others to become better
  • The HebrewnamePenninnah means pearl
    • Was portrayed to be a villain
    • Pearls are produced when an irritant enters into a clam and it secretes hormones
  • Some of the best works come from a person that’s irritated
    • Irritation is a sign of future production
  • The Hebrew name Hannah means grace
    • Grace is another word for favor
  • God used Penninnah to provoke Hannah for good
  • Don’t get jealous get busy,  don’t get mad get producing
  • Being provoked is a chance to prove something or someone wrong
    • Choose your battles wisely
      • Not every provocation warrants a response
  • Provoke means to call forth or stir up
    • Calling something forth that was dormant
    • You have to provoke people to practice
  • The role of a Christian is not to get even,  but to get right
    • You can never get ahead of someone  if you’re always trying to get even with them
    • Ephesians 4:26-27
      • Settle your issues that day
      • Don’t allow the issue of today to negatively impact tomorrow
  • When mostpeopleare provoked the response are negative
    • Cursing
    • Fighting
  • Could God be using something to provoke you into a better place/position in life?
  • Whatevervexes you is normally a sign thatyouare gifted in that area
    • Ex: recognizing ignorance normally indicates the gift of teaching
3 Ways to deal with provocation
  • Whenever you are provoked, employ invocation
  • Whenever you are provoked, use revocation
  • Whenever you are provoked, find an avocation
    • Avocate – to call away
    • Find what avocation calls you away from your vocation
      • What place of peace or activity calls you away from work
    • Hannah’s avocation was the desire to birth something to give it back to God
      • The result was Samuel
  • Don’t allow your provoker to make you become bitter, allow it to make you become better

What’s in Your Hand?

Whats in Your Hand?

What's-In-Your-Hand

It’s amazing what god can do with whats in your hands
  • Whatever God has given you you are not the owner of it, you are the steward of it
  • God is actually saying “lay down all that you think you are”
  • Verse 3 interpretation: use what you’ve got to get what you want!
    • you’ve got to be bold enough to take what little you have and use it
Everybody has insecurities even if they are strong and highly esteemed
  • hands
  • they way their teeth our space
God asked whats in YOUR hand because God doesn’t want to put your future in anybody else’s hands
  • don’t blame another person, because blaming somebody else empowers them over your life
  • your choices determine, your character
  • you’ve got to play the hand you were dealt
  • the question eliminates what you’re holding from the past, and what your concerns are about the future
  • whats in your hand speaks to the present moment
    • an excuse gives you permission to stay where you are
    • complaining nails you to your problems
Don’t let your handicaps disqualify you from a future

  • “Hugs are the best part”
  • “The hugs are way better than the food”
  • “We are a gift to the world”
  • “Don’t let your disabilities crush your dreams”
  • God was testing his obedience to make sure Moses would confront his fear
    • Great leaders dont fail in public until they have first failed in private
  • God was testing his courage
    • If your dreams don’t intimidate you,its not God
      • your flesh, your level of education, and your financial capacity
    • Every dream that God gives you will look like its going to fail before it succeeds
  • When you open your hands and let it go, God will open his hands and let it flow
The safest place you can be is in the will of God
  • God wants to use a man who is dead to himself, because you can’t kill him
Remember Elijah asked a woman whats in your house?
  • She replied “nothing but some oil”
  • Some people are overlooking an anointing of whats in their house
  • beware of becoming too familiar of whats in your house
Whats in your head?
  • in your head are your dreams
    • plans
    • imaginations
    • thoughts
    • ideas
      • 1 God given idea can change your life forever
      • you dont have a shortage of money, you have a shortage of ideas of how to get it
  • when you focus on what you don’t have, you fail to see what you do!
    • it focuses your mind on the problems and not the solutions
  • What is right in front of me
    • there is nothing like the power of NOW
      • needs over wants
        • do what you need to do until you can do what you want to do
        • what do i need to do to engage the power of now?
God gives us the seed in our present so that you carry the possibility of everything that will ever happen in your future
When God Speaks to you about dreams, he will never ask you whats in your wallet
  • God’s will is God’s bill
    • where God leads there God feeds
    • where God guides, God provides
What current circumstances and relationship can God use for your good and his glory?
  • The commons becomes mighty when got anoints it
  • off to God what he has placed in your hand
“What’s in your hand” means whatever is in your care or control.
  • this could be
    • money
    • possessions
    • influence
    • talents
    • abilities – could be spoken word
    • strategic relationships
  • whatever is in your hand is enough!
  • sometimes whats in your hand is the key that will open a small door that leads to a bigger door
Whatever it is that God ask you to release it will become a curse
  • If you hold it in your hand it will become a liability, but if you release it to God it’ll become an asset
  • Praise isn’t your to keep, if you keep praise – praise will turn into pride, if you release praise – praise will turn into glory
What you withhold and retain in your hand reveals what is in your heart.
  • Samson had the jawbone of a donkey that killed a thousand men
  • Ruth had grained that she gleaned to feed her mother in law
  • David had a sling
  • An unnamed woman took an alabaster box, which anointed the body of Jesus
We all have something in our hands
  • Moses had a rod in his hand because he was a shepherd
    • the rod gave him his identity
  • God asked him to lay down that rod because it stripped his identity
    • he was more than a shepherd
    • they will put you in a box when you die, so don’t let people box you in while your alive
    • don’t get caught up in labels
      • dont derive you identity from what you do
      • you can quit what you do, but you cant quit who you are
  • his rod was also a sign of his income
    • his sheep represented his income
      • the larger the flock, the more wealthy
  • his rod also a sign of his influence
    • it was a rod a leadership
Lay down your identity, your income and influence and allow God to breath on it
  • What’s in your hand wont work for you unless you turn it loose
  • John 12:24 NIV
  • you have to give up before you can go up
  • Matthew 10:39NLT (New Living Translations)
    • if you give up the lower life, God will give you the higher life
  • God has the capacity make the rod come alive
    • when you hold on to it, it becomes a liability. When you release it, it becomes an asset
Holy means the presence of God
  • Holy bible
  • Holy matrimony
Once you release what God has given you, he will only leave you empty handed for so long before he increases it
Pray and ask God to show you “whats in your hand”

Return to Community

Return to Community

Encourage one another and build each other up

  • we are children of light we are supposed to be in the know
  • we are not here to look at somebody and find fault in them
  • we are supposed to build one another up because the satanic forces of the world are already tearing us down
  • even encourage the one who encourages everyone else
    • they need it more than you know
Challenge yourself: Everyday this week find somebody to enocurage and build up
  • speak to their dreams
  • “i still believe in you”
  • “you can still be exactly what God called you to be”
  • we have a civic responsibility and moral obligation to encourage others and build them up
Community
  • People “talk” to each other
  • the way to go forward it to actually go back
    • cyberspace is an artificial community
    • pick up the phone and actually let somebody hear your voice, not your voicemail
    • send hand written letters
    • Signature = sign of your nature
    • in text you can’t determine tone
  • you remember things that are an experience
    • life is a collection of memories
  • in community you have the power to touch
  • community is about being able to connect
  • currently we have artificial community
    • everything is so segmented

Technology/Social Media

  • social media, is everything but social, when we open a computer we close our doors
  • technology is just an illusion,
  • smart phones = dumb people
  • technology is causing people to become individualistic
The bible was not written to individuals, it was written to a corporate body of believers – the Church
  • Jeremiah 29: 11
  • We have allowed our individual plans to pull us away from the corporate destiny of God
    • Beware of the unholy trinity of me, myself, and I
    • we have lost sight of the community from being blinded by our own selfish ambitions
    • Ephesians 4:1-6
  • Jesus taught us community through the model prayer
    • OUR father which art in heaven
      • he didn’t say MY father
    • Give US this day, OUR daily bread
      • he didn’t selfishly say feed ME
    • Lead US not in to temptation, deliver US from evil
    • he was praying for his community
  • You can be blessed better if you ask God to bless somebody other than you
  • We have to be concerned with more than just ourselves and our immediate needs
  • It requires humility to walk in unity
  • Humility isn’t thinking less of yourself, its thinking of yourself less
  • It is the greatest curseto be in a relationship with somebody who is selfish/egocentric
    • it’s not that they mean anything against you, it just means that everything is for them
Silence
  • Isiah 41:1-7
    • Keep silence before me
      • in silence we can find renewal and strength
      • Silent and Listen use the same letters
      • when silent you can hear the whisper of God
      • we don’t have the right to speak for God until we speak to God

Collaborative Effort

  • Everyone helped his neighbor and encouraged his brother
  • Isiah 41: 6
  • Communityis formed based on communication
    • when Satan wants to break a community he attacks and confuses communication
  • anyone who claims to be self made could have been so much greater if they let somebody else help them
  • coming together is a beginning, working together is progress. Staying together with joy is success
Work
  • It was a given in the Jewish culture to teach the ethics of work to the other generations, without it a generation will rise looking for a handout
  • Labor is the gift of God

Some greedy people will never have enough money

  • God teaches us that its good to work so that we might be able to help others
    • Ephesians 4:28
      • it leads you to give

Giving

  • no matter how little you have, you have something to give
    • time
    • knowledge
    • perspective
  • It will bless your life when you allow God to use you to bless someone else

      • Your testimony becomes the platform
  • When you die in yourself he will live through you
  • Every new level of your life comes with new relationships
    • You’ll never achieve what you’re capable of If you keep holding onto what you need to let go

    • People shouldn’t be merely used or viewed as stepping stones
    • We have to learn to say “goodbye” and not “get lost”
    • Some peopleare assigned to you,  someare attached to you
      • Assigned – mutual benefit and strife
      • Attached – bloodsuckers

AttachedOrAssigned

  • Every person you met is either a lesson or a blessin’
  • Every person that is a lesson prepares you for the blessin’

  • Just because you met somebody in church doesn’t mean they are the one
    • Demons go to church to
    • The Highest level of demons us called the “religious order”
  • Anytime you notice a change in a person,  check their new relationships
  • Real friends arent in cyberspace,  they are in the real world
  • God’s answer to every problem is always a person
  • God has created millions of doors for his love, and one of those doors is you
Bad managers are:
  • Insecure
    • Territorial
    • Selfish and don’t like to share credit
  • Inconsiderate
    • Correct people in public
      • Correct privately,  praise publicly
    • Disrespectful
  • Incompetent
    • They lack the knowledge of people skills
    • Going to school doesn’t mean you know how to work well with people
  • Egocentric
    • They take all the credit
    • Great leaders take more of the blame than they should, but less of the praise than they could

Regain Your Cutting Edge

Bishop Dale C. Bronner

II Kings 6:1-7

The company of the prophets said to Elisha, “Look, the place where we meet with you is too small for us. Let us go to the Jordan, where each of us can get a pole; and let us build a place there for us to meet.”

And he said, “Go.”

Then one of them said, “Won’t you please come with your servants?”

“I will,” Elisha replied. And he went with them.

They went to the Jordan and began to cut down trees. As one of them was cutting down a tree, the iron axhead fell into the water. “Oh no, my lord!” he cried out. “It was borrowed!”

The man of God asked, “Where did it fall?” When he showed him the place, Elisha cut a stick and threw it there, and made the iron float. “Lift it out,” he said. Then the man reached out his hand and took it.

  • Until you identify the problem, you cannot solve it
    • A problem well-defined is a problem half-solved
    • a problem can be solved, facts of life can not
  • Problems drive us to find solutions
    • Before you find the solution, a problem can make you miserably uncomfortable
    • Discomfort is the thing that motivates change
      • When you grow, the problem will shrink
      • Growth needs finance (input)
        • Complacency=death, the sign of things not growing

Life lessons

  • The fear of losing can spoil the joy of using
  • When you don’t understand purpose, the result is misuse or disuse
  • You can’t fix a problem with a man’s feet until you fix the problem in his head
  • What you perceive as a person’s needs is not always synonymous with what he wants
  • Charity without treatment is often short lived
    • You cannot fix with money, what should be fixed with prayer and wisdom
  • Don’t just observe situations, deduce and learn from them
    • Reflection turns experience into insight

Vs. 3 – wherever you go, carry your leader with you

Vs. 4 – something must come down in order for something else to go up

  • Maintain equilibrium
    • The greater the responsibility, the less personal freedom
    • Am I willing to decrease ______ to increase _______

Vs. 5 – mishaps occur whenever you’re building something

  • It’s easier to correct a mistake, impossible to correct inaction
    • You can correct something, cant correct nothing

Pray like it’s all left up to God, but work like it’s all up to you.

  • God will give you the foundational tools, but the work is your responsibility
    • You would become weak/spoiled if he did everything for you
    • God doesn’t bless what you pray, he blesses what you do

Your cutting edge is on a ticking time clock

Vs. 6 – go back to the last place you had “it”

  1. Clearly defined goals and a plan of execution
    1. The average person has a goal, the elite have a strategy
  2. They gather a lot of information
    1. Build on your strengths
  3. They learn from others
    1. Mistakes, customer, etc
  4. They have good pal on their team
    1. If you can’t afford to hire the best, hire the best and train them
    2. Study an organization, find weaknesses and develop a strategy to address the?
      1. They are courageously creative/innovative
        1. Find and unmet need and meet it
        2. They find an itch and scratch it
          1. They partner with others who have strengths that cover their weaknesses

GO BACK

Vs. 7 – Pick it up YOURSELF!!

  • Put a stick to it

If you’re tired of starting over, stop quitting!

Don’t look for others to do for you what you were designed to do for yourself
